Presented by the Charleston Gaillard Center’s Education and Community Program and PURE Theatre
Students ages 13 – 18 of all skill levels are invited to study with members of PURE Theatre’s Core Ensemble of professional actors in a three-week performance intensive. The group of 15 actors will be cast in, study, rehearse, and perform Puffs by Matt Cox, the story of the kids who just happened to be there when a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. Puffs is basically a tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. Is it funny and a whole lot of fun? Absolutely!
Classes will run July 5 – 21 and will focus on critical (and also fun to learn) performance skills: vocalization, characterization, motivations, movement, blocking and staging, and some cool conversations with the designers and technicians who make it all happen behind the scenes and backstage. We’ll even throw in a few theater games. Classes will be held off-site from the Gaillard Center at a downtown theater location, but students will have the exceptional opportunity to perform for their family, friends, and the Charleston community on the stage of the Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall for the debut of Puffs on July 21st at 6pm. Puffs is a 105 minute, one-act play.
