Just Be You and the Charleston Gaillard Center’s Education and Community Program are partnering to offer 7th – 9th graders in-school, self-compassion workshops focusing on the daily challenges of life as a modern teen, offering them a safe environment to be kind to themselves, share, learn and grow into their most confident selves. We want to invite area middle school and high school students to attend the assembly all FREE of costSchools will have the opportunity to sign up for in-school workshops taking place after the discussion. At this time, we have reached capacity for this program. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Corey Miller is a former linebacker for the Gamecocks with a 9-year career in the NFL and currently is a television sports anchor, along with Dad to Carolina Panthers’ Christian Miller. Miller is dedicated to helping students become leaders in all phases of their lives!

Angel Roberts is a Myrtle Beach native, Emmy award-winning designer and choreographer and founder of Peace Love Hip Hop. Her favorite part of dance is still interacting with students.

Darius Rucker is the multi-Platinum lead singer and rhythm guitarist of GRAMMY award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish and since has dominated the Billboard Country Albums charts with his solo career. He is a Charleston native who always has time to give back!

 


YOUTH POETRY SLAM

The Youth Poetry Slam will bring together young poets of all levels for a friendly competition. The top three winners of the slam will have the opportunity to perform later that night for Free Verse, Charleston’s poetry festival. Prizes will also be awarded to top three poets. Hosted by The Unspoken Word.

We also offer in-class poetry workshops led by our 2019-2020 Artist-in-Residence Marcus Amaker, South Carolina’s first poet laureate and an award-winning graphic designer. Learn more about it here.
