Lowcountry Jazz Festival: Day Two @ Charleston Gaillard Center | Charleston | South Carolina | United States

The Lowcountry Jazz Festival, South Carolina’s premiere annual Smooth Jazz event, celebrates its 10th Anniversary in 2018 in a dynamic new venue – the Charleston Gaillard Center – and with a stellar lineup of superstar artists and up and coming instrumentalists and vocalists. The festival continues its Labor Day weekend tradition, kicking off Saturday, September 1.

The 2018 headliners include chart-topping genre icons and GRAMMY Award nominees saxophonist Boney James, vocalist Avery*Sunshine, pianist David Benoit and Neo-soul crooner Eric “Erro” Roberson. The stellar festival line up also includes acoustic guitarist Marc Antoine, Nick Colionne and Matt Marshak, keyboardist Brian Simpson and saxophonist Eric Darius. Also featured are flutist Althea Rene, R&B/jazz singer-songwriter Selina Albright, and Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year, saxophonist Jazmin Ghent.

The Greater Charleston Lowcountry Jazz Festival is the primary fundraiser for Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose primary mission is decreasing health disparities and increasing health literacy, especially for African Americans and the underserved in our community, South Carolina, and the nation.

The organization airs radio and television health tips, publishes a weekly e-newsletter, and provides information on social media to improve health literacy. Lectures, seminars, and youth and community activities are also provided by Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc.

Proceeds from our Festival support the mission of Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc. and the Thaddeus John Bell, M.D. Endowment Fund. This scholarship fund was created conjointly with the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina to assist students who pursue a health science degree and graduate from the Medical University of South Carolina. This will facilitate an increase in the number of African American health providers in the state.

The Greater Charleston Lowcountry Jazz Festival and Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc. have made contributions, exceeding $250,000, to the Thaddeus John Bell, M.D. Endowment Fund!

Our 10th Anniversary festival will celebrate the life of Tonisha Bell Alston, who dedicated her life to Closing the Gap in Healthcare for African Americans and the underserved, along with the Lowcountry Jazz Festival.

Eric Roberson – Opener

GRAMMY Award-nominee, singer, songwriter, and producer Eric Roberson continues to break boundaries as an independent artist in an industry dominated by major labels, manufactured sounds and mainstream radio.  Described as the original pioneer of the independent movement in R&B/soul music, Eric has achieved major milestones in his career, from being a successful songwriter and producer for notable artist such as Jill ScottMusiq SoulchildDweleVivian Green and countless others, as well as headlining sold out tours across the country.

This Rahway, NJ and Howard University alum became the first independent artist to be nominated for a BET Award 2007 and was the recipient of the “Underground Artist of the Year” BETJ Virtual Award, with Rahsaan Patterson in 2008.  In addition, Eric was nominated in both 2010 and 2011 for a GRAMMY award in the “Best Urban/Alternative Performance” category and continues to blaze trails unheard of as an independent artist.  In 2011, his studio album, Mister Nice Guy, debuted in the top 5 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts and his 10th studio album, The Box, was released in 2014.
