Information regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)
As patron safety remains our first priority, we have implemented numerous measures to allow guests to safely gather within the Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall.
Please visit our Patron Safety page for information, additional guidelines, and procedures for sanitation and cleaning as well as building modifications, new equipment, and changes in how we’ll host our events.
We encourage patrons to assist in preventing the spread of any illness by thoroughly and carefully washing your hands regularly, staying home if you have a fever, cough, or other serious symptoms, and monitoring local news for advice about keeping yourself and loved ones safe in case of an outbreak.
Thank you for your continued support of the Charleston Gaillard Center.

UPDATES OCTOBER 21, 2020
The safety and security of our patrons, our community partners, and our staff remains the Charleston Gaillard Center’s number one priority. Yesterday, the Gaillard Center was notified one of our back-of-house, technical team members tested positive for COVID-19. While this team member does not have direct interaction with patrons or front-of-house activities, their role backstage is critical to executing on-stage events. For this reason, and out of an abundance of caution for our team, the Gaillard Center is working directly with the Charleston Symphony to reschedule its October concerts.
The following Charleston Symphony events are rescheduled:
Masterworks – Beethoven’s Beginnings October 23 & 24 to November 6 & 7
POPS – Once Upon a Time in the West October 30 to November 13
*October tickets will be accepted at the new scheduled dates
At this time, all other November performances are taking place as scheduled. The Charleston Gaillard Center will continue to closely follow the various safety measures already in place to keep patrons, team members, and partners safe. To learn more about the Gaillard Center’s stringent safety policies, please visit the Patron Safety page on our site.
Stephen A. Bedard, President and CEO of the Charleston Gaillard Center, stated, “As always, safety is our top priority. Upon learning of this positive COVID-19 case, we immediately alerted the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control as well as the Charleston Symphony, which is scheduled to have four in-person events in the next two weeks. Even though this particular member of our staff does not have contact with patrons, the inability to execute technical responsibilities before these shows requires us to reschedule October’s concerts. We look forward to providing unforgettable experiences when we have all staff members safe and healthy to present these events. ”
Michael Smith, Executive Director of the Charleston Symphony, noted, “The Charleston Symphony has worked directly with Gaillard Center staff to ensure all patrons safely enjoy the incredible programming we have planned this year. We know postponing the beginning of our season a little longer is the right decision to effectively produce the highest quality performance, which our patrons truly deserve. ”
Ticket holders for the rescheduled performances will receive information from the CSO regarding next steps in the next twenty-four hours. Both organizations are working together diligently to ensure this process runs as smoothly as possible. If you have any questions, please contact the CSO’s Director of Patron Services, Cindy Branch at (843) 723-7528 ext. 110. For questions regarding the Charleston Gaillard Center, please reach out directly to our Ticket Office at (843) 242-3099.
Thank you for your continued support of the Charleston Gaillard Center and Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
